REFORMA's
Tribute
to Dr. Trejo |
VISION
STATEMENT
Building on the visionary leadership of Dr. Arnulfo D. Trejo, the Trejo
Foster Foundation will achieve by 2009 what he envisioned in 1992: it
will be recognized as a significant, driving force in advocating and supporting
library and information education that results in quality services for
the Hispanic/Latino community.
Due to the work of the Trejo Foster Foundation, U.S. graduate programs
in Library and Information Sciences will have Hispanic/Latino student
enrollment proportionate to their incidence in the general population
and adequately prepared to serve Hispanic/Latino communities. Strong recruitment
and retention programs for Hispanic students will be in place. Furthermore,
these programs will infuse the needs of Hispanics/Latinos and other diverse
populations into all aspects of the curriculum.
The TFF will be seen as a lead organization concerned with positive change
in the public policy arena related to information services to the Hispanic/Latino
Spanish-speaking community.
The TFF will sponsor bi-annual, educational institutes to bring together
leaders, practitioners and students in the library and information fields
to discuss and advocate for issues, policies and practices that affect
Hispanic Latino communities and individuals. This will provide opportunities
to share scholarship and research that can be integrated into curricula
and provide a forum for discussion of issues and public policy. It will
help prepare current students for service in Hispanic/Latino communities
and support their retention in library programs. The institutes will also
serve to recruit new Hispanic/Latino students to the library profession.
TFF will be funded through a variety of public and private sources, and
these funds will support the training of future Hispanic/Latino librarians,
public policy research, electronic and traditional communication media
that will increase the quality of library services to the Hispanic/Latino
community, and promote the importance of life-long learning as the best
means to maintain quality services for library professionals working with
these populations.
In
addition, the following were adopted as TFF’s Goals:
- To
be recognized as a significant, driving force in advocating quality
library and information services for Hispanic/Latinos in the United
States.
-
To influence schools of library and information science to recruit,
retain and graduate more Hispanic/Latino students and to incorporate
more Hispanic/Latino perspectives into the curriculum.
-
To provide a forum for the development, discussion and promotion of
Hispanic/Latino library and information issues.
